A couple years ago I started a job at a Manhattan law firm. Halfway through my first day my supervising partner stepped into my office and shut the door. He placed two bottles onto my desk; a bottle of Buffalo Trace, and a bottle of Grey Goose.
“Mik, what I’m about to tell you is one of the most important life lessons.” Aaron* went on to explain that the bourbon (or scotch, or whatever) is the “celebratory” drink. It’s meant to be a nice, high-end bottle that you proudly display on a shelf. When something good happens, invite some coworkers over and have a celebratory pour.
The vodka, on the other hand, is stored in the “vodka drawer.” On one of Those Days (we all have them), one can shut the office door and take a shot or two.
“The reason I recommend vodka for this,” Aaron explained “is that good vodka is odorless and tasteless. You can have a bit and no one will know. Usually.”
And that, kids, is why everyone should have a vodka drawer.
